Social Studies 6: As outlined by the New York State Social Studies Framework, Grade 6 Social Studies is based on the geography and history of the Eastern Hemisphere, including the development of cultures, civilizations, and empires; interactions between societies; and the comparison of trends in government and economics. It also incorporates some elements of other social sciences.
Social Studies 7: Students study American History from the Colonization through the Civil War; in addition to emphasis on current events. Students also study the presidents: George Washington through Abraham Lincoln; as well as the Constitution.
Social Studies 8: Students study American History from Reconstruction through present day; inaddition to emphasis on current events. Students also study the presidents: Andrew Johnson through Joe Biden; as well as the Constitution.
Students in both grades watch a variety of educational videos, including such historical events such as 9/11, the Kennedy Assassination, Pearl Harbor, the Lincoln Assassination, the History of the Secret Service, the Biography of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, etc.
Students in both grades write research papers, on topics of their choice, relevant to the period of time being studied. They also prepare and make Google Slide presentations to their classmates, based on their research papers.
