Thank you for coming to our kindergarten orientation! It was my pleasure meeting our kindergrateners and our parents! I am excited to be your child's teacher.
Kindergarten Reminders for School Year 2023-2024
Uniform: The children are expected to wear their complete uniform to school everyday. Kindergarten boys’ summer (September to around October, May to June) uniform consists of khaki shorts and blue golf short sleeves shirts with the IHM logo. They transition to gray long pants, with the IHM long sleeve golf shirt, and an IHM sweater with logo in the colder months. The girls wear khaki skorts and the blue short sleeves golf shirts with the IHM logo. They transition to the jumpers, with white Peter pan collar button down blouse, and a school tie, an IHM sweater with logo and black shoes. They will not be allowed to wear any sweater without the IHM logo in the building.
Uniform for gym days consists of IHM t-shirts and shorts, IHM sweats for colder days, and full sneakers. Velcro sneakers are encouraged. White socks are used with the summer and gym uniforms. Navy blue or black socks are to be used with the winter uniform. On gym days, they come in their gym uniforms. If the girls have to wear nail polish, make it a reasonable color (light pink). No excessive jewelry allowed. Umbrellas are not allowed in the building. Please send your child to school everyday with a full size bookbag.
Please label you child’s clothing, especially the sweaters and sweatshirts.
Snacks and lunches should be individually packed. Please make sure they can open and close their own things. Lunchboxes are needed for their lunches. You have an option of ordering lunch from our vendor, or sending them with their lunch. Lunch orders are arranged directly by the parents.
We have a morning snack in the classroom everyday. Please send one snack and a drink in a brown bag or reusable bag, separate from their lunch. We encourage healthy eating. No lunchboxes for snack as we have limited space in the classroom. Please also check that their drink containers do not leak. Sometimes it is not closed properly that by the time they need it, we find puddles and a wet bookbag.
We also need baby wipes and facial tissues. We would like to request everyone to send in a container of baby wipes and a box of tissues at the beginning of each month. We use them a lot! Right now we have enough disinfectant wipes. We will let you know if we are running low.
School hours: Class hours are from 8:00-2:30. It is important that the children are here on time and picked up on time, because it will affect the flow of traffic for the other grades. It’ll make things easier for them, for us, and the other children in the school who may be in the same path. Late students are to be dropped off at the door. Parents will not be allowed inside the building. Please do not be late. The Kindergarten class is sent in at 8:00, and dismissed at the building front door at 2:30. Please do not be late. I cannot emphasize this enough. They will be sent to the afterschool and there is a registration fee, as well as fee for the day. We don’t want it to be confusing to everyone concerned. Please let us know of any changes in your pick-up routine, including after school club activities, in writing. At their 2:30 dismissal, the children will be released individually as we see their parents/guardian.
We would like the children to have their personal size sanitizing gel they can keep in their bookbag. We will be using this everyday.
Please let us know of any allergies. Send your child’s health forms ASAP to the nurse, if you have not done so yet. Any medication your child needs should be discussed with the nurse.
Birthday Parties- We certainly can celebrate birthday parties in school by having treats such cupcakes/ brownies. All food that is brought to school for the children’s consumption need to be approved by the nurse 2 weeks in advance. Please let her know. We can hand to the children invitations for parties outside of school, but please make sure everyone is included. We will not hand them out if it is not for everyone.
We garden with the kindergarteners. Garden gloves optional. Please practice with them putting their gloves on. The garden is our way of showing them the beauty of creation, what it means to be stewards of creation, the life processes and cycles in nature. We introduce them to healthy food that nature gives us. A lot happens in a garden!
We do homework in kindergarten. Once they are acclimated with the school routine, we will begin homework. I will let you know when homework begins. Homework is expected to be done. Please sign all homework.
We have a trade book that we will be doing with the children. This means they will be bringing home a book every week and they will have to do the activity on the back of the book in their trade book notebook. This book needs to be sent back to school by Thursday of that week, at the latest, so we can prepare for the following week’s trade book. There is a special folder that will contain the trade book notebook and the book itself. Please keep them together when you return this part of the homework. Please follow the format on the first page. Don’t worry, we will guide you through this.
Please do not send your child to school if they are not feeling well. Sometimes it just takes an extra day to rest for them to fully recover.
Looking forward to a fruitful year of Kindergarten!
God bless!
