Pre-K3 explores a variety of themes through classroom centers. In learning through centers, students observe the change in apples before and after they are cooked in the Science center. November boasts a harvest theme. Students make connections as they graph various vegetables in the Math center. December is full of learning as we have our Christmas crafts and celebrations.
The exploration of themes continues. Springtime brings a visit from the Easter Bunny, as well as nature walks, plant growth and gardening, as we learn about God's creations.
As young students, we experience the world using our five senses and continue to develop fine motor skills. We have much fun playing with Play Dough, learning to use scissors, holding and writing with pencils, and building with Legos. In addition, the children learn to get along with their peers through meaningful play, and take steps towards independence as they are given the responsibility of putting away their belongings.
The goal of the IHM Pre-K4 program is to plant the seeds of positive self-concept, respect for people and the things that surround us, the ability for self-regulation and the love of learning. Music, art, movement and “silliness” are incorporated into a curriculum rich with hands on science experiments, pre-reader exercises, mathematical concepts, creative arts, religious instruction and social development. Children receive instruction and interactive smart board opportunities each week, along with physical education and musical enrichment. Above all, our Pre-K4 children learn about God, His love for us and the importance of loving one another.
