Visual Arts instruction at Immaculate Heart of Mary School is provided in a well planned, meaningful, and focused way. Lessons are taught using a variety of learning techniques for the arts. Students are introduced to the basic elements of design used by an artist when creating a work of art (color, value, line, shape, form, texture, and space). Students learn principles including balance, emphasis, harmony, variety, graduation, movement, rhythm and proportion. In addition to teaching the foundations of art, some assignments will be a direct focus on our faith, collaborate with classroom comprehension or be developed directly to integrate a Holiday.
Each student develops abilities to:
Express ideas in original works of art in many mediums
Develop and understanding or arts and artists of different cultures and historical periods
Learn to evaluate their own artworks and the works of others
Experience collaborative teamwork and problem solving
