The Grade 4 curriculum involves building upon the foundational skills and knowledge acquired in earlier grades while introducing more complex concepts and fostering deeper critical thinking across various subjects. This curriculum aims to deepen students’ academic skills, critical thinking abilities, and social-emotional development while preparing them for continued success in upper grades and beyond. The Fourth Grade curriculum represents a time of spiritual and academic growth for students.

1. Language Arts:

   • Reading: Developing comprehension skills through various genres (fiction, non-fiction, poetry), analyzing themes, characters, and author’s purpose.
   • Writing: Developing proficiency in writing structured paragraphs and essays, including narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive writing.
   • Grammar and Language: Mastering grammar rules (parts of speech, sentence structure), punctuation, and expanding vocabulary through reading and word study.
   • In class novel reading

2. Mathematics:

   • Number and Operations: Multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction with larger numbers, including multi-digit operations and understanding fractions, decimals, and percentages.
   • Geometry: Properties of shapes, angles, symmetry, and understanding geometric concepts such as area, perimeter, volume, and geometric transformations.
   • Measurement and Data: Measurement conversions (customary and metric), interpreting and creating graphs, and understanding statistical concepts.
   • Use of Sadlier Math

3. Science:

   • Life Science: Ecosystems, biodiversity, adaptations, life cycles, and interdependence of organisms.
   • Physical Science: Properties of matter, changes in matter, forces and motion, energy transformations (heat, light, sound, electricity), and properties of waves.
   • Earth Science: Earth’s structure, natural resources, weather and climate patterns, environmental conservation, and geological processes.

4. Social Studies:

   • New York State History: Exploration and colonization of our state. We share community through the study of the rich history of NY from Native Americans to the present.

5. Religion:

   • Ten Commandments:  learn about living and sharing the Ten Commandments and Works of Mercy with others, as a commitment to living life as Jesus did.

• NWEA MAP Testing: Students take the fall, winter and spring tests. Data drives differentiation and leveling of students.
• IXL: Students sign onto Clever daily to work on assigned tasks.
• Integration of google suite apps
• NYS CBT EXAM: Preparation for the NYS ELA and MATH exams on the chromebook.
• Parent Communication: Regular updates to discuss progress and address any concerns.
