Academic Curriculum and Special Programs:

IHM School follows the Common Core Curriculum as set forth by the New York State Department of Education and adapted by the Archdiocese of NY.

Math Our math curriculum focuses on teaching basic mathematical principles for students in the younger grades. This sets a strong foundation for those more complex math concepts, computations and problems that will be taught in the middle school grades. Students who excel in Math from Grades 6,7 and 8 are invited to participate in an Honors Math Program and are offered the opportunity to take the Algebra I Regents Exam in preparation for High School.

Science The science curriculum is an enriching and challenging, hands on program that encourages students to develop their natural curiosity about their surroundings. For students in grades 4-8, our state of the art laboratory is well equipped to allow for various levels of experimentation in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Earth Science and Physics.

Language Arts & Reading Language arts instruction utilizes an eclectic approach, sight vocabulary, phonics, spelling and Basal readers. Reading in integrated with writing and comprehension across all subject areas. In the middle school grades literature is stressed. Students read various literary pieces, including poetry and classic titles, and participate in analytical reading discussions.

Religion All students receive value-based instruction in Scripture, morality, dogma and liturgy. Students participate in a daily prayer and Mass as a school community. Second grade students are prepared to receive the Sacrament of Penance and Holy Communion. Eighth grade students are prepared to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
